C. M. Lockhart (also known as Chelsea) is a best-selling author who writes books about Black girls who aren't all that nice. She is the founder of Written in Melanin LLC — which includes a bi-weekly podcast and YouTube channel of the same name — and the Melanin Library, an online database of books written by Black authors.

Her short stories have been published with FIYAH Literary Magazine and other anthologies; she is a contributing editor for Magic in the Melanin: A Black Fantasy Anthology. Her debut novel, We Are the Origin, was an Indie Ink Award Finalist in four categories; her novel, We Are Dying Gods, was a #1 Bestseller on Amazon.

She is also a freelance editor and authoring coach, so whenever she isn't writing books, she's helping others publish theirs. And in her downtime, she's watching anime and dreaming about the day her books get animated.

Written in Melanin is a brand that exists to support Black authors. Founded in 2019 by C. M. Lockhart, a Black author with a passion for reading and words, the goal of Written in Melanin — in every capacity that it exists in — is to showcase and celebrate Black creators.

To that end, the Written in Melanin YouTube Channel was created to bring more exposure to authors; the Melanin Library was created to make finding books by Black authors a simpler experience; the Written in Melanin podcast was created to discuss any and everything related to Black authors and the readers who enjoy their books.

The Melanin Library is a continuously growing database of books written by Black authors. It is an extension of Written in Melanin and was created to make finding books by Black authors a simpler experience and provide a space on the internet where Black authors are showcased, without exception.
